UNESCO Sites in Mongolia

Mongolia UNESCO has registered 5 sites on the World Heritage list and 12 on the tentative list.

Some places are so interesting that it’s relevant to keep them for future generations. This is why UNESCO has built a list of crucial classified properties in which superb places stand out for their aesthetic, natural, artistic, or cultural significance.

More than a thousand places are registered as Unesco’s World Heritage worldwide. Due to my interest in visiting World Heritage sites, I compiled the UNESCO list in Mongolia and the corresponding map.

Description

1. Great Burkhan Khaldun Mountain and its surrounding sacred landscape is a cultural and natural heritage site in Mongolia. It is a sacred mountain that has been revered for centuries by the Mongolian people, and the surrounding landscape contains many important cultural artifacts.
2. Orkhon Valley Cultural Landscape is a cultural heritage site located in central Mongolia. It contains several important cultural artifacts related to the region’s history, including ancient tombs, rock carvings, and other cultural sites.
3. Petroglyphic Complexes of the Mongolian Altai is a cultural heritage site in western Mongolia. It contains many important rock carvings and petroglyphs that date back to the Bronze Age and provides important insight into the history and culture of the region.
4. Landscapes of Dauria is a transboundary natural heritage site located in Mongolia and Russia. It is a well-preserved example of a steppe ecosystem and contains several important natural landmarks, including wetlands, grasslands, and mountains.
5. Uvs Nuur Basin is a natural heritage site located in western Mongolia. It is a well-preserved example of a central Asian desert ecosystem and contains important natural landmarks, including wetlands, dunes, and mountains.
