New York has a selection of museums that are considered among the best in the world. A visit to the city is not complete without devoting a few hours to visit some of its museums.

New York offers a variety and quality of impressive museums and museums. For art lovers, then you will not have time to see everything and you’ll get sore feet and headaches from walking so much and looking at so many images during one full day.

Making a list of all the museums in New York City is a task a bit harsh since the city has about 120 museums. I will make a selection of my favorite museums.

Museum of Modern Art

Museum of Modern Art – MoMA (11 West 53rd Street | http://www.moma.org/)

For lovers of contemporary art, this museum is fantastic and has possibly the best collection of contemporary art in the world. Some of the best-known artists are exhibited at MOMA: Vincent van Gogh, Henri Rousseau, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Piet Mondrian, Andy Warhol, Paul Gauguin, Claude Monet, Henri Matisse, Paul Cezanne, Umberto Boccioni, Giorgio de Chirico, Jackson Pollock, Barnett Newman, Jasper Johns, Frida Kahlo and Max Ernst.

Metropolitan Museum of Art

Metropolitan Museum of Art – MET (1071 Fifth Avenue | http://www.metmuseum.org/)

This super museum contains more than 2 million works exhibited and divided into 19 departments. Along with the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg – Russia, the Louvre Museum in Paris – France or the Prado Museum in Madrid – Spain, this is one of the biggest museums in the world. The MET has a permanent collection of art objects ranging from the Classical Period of Ancient Egypt, paintings and sculptures of all the European masters, and a large collection of American art, African, Asian, Byzantine and Islamic.

Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (53 West Street | http://www.guggenheim.org/new-york/)

This Museum is both one of the most well known showrooms in the world but also one of the landmarks of New York. Possibly one of the most known buildings made by architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the Guggenheim is opened since October 1959. The Guggenheim has a superb collection of Impressionist and Contemporary Art, also showing temporary exhibitions throughout the year.
