Dominican Republic UNESCO has registered 1 site on the World Heritage list and 13 on the tentative list.
Some places are so interesting that it’s relevant to keep them for future generations. This is why UNESCO has built a list of crucial classified properties in which superb places stand out for their aesthetic, natural, artistic, or cultural significance.
More than a thousand places are registered as Unesco’s World Heritage worldwide. Due to my interest in visiting World Heritage sites, I compiled the UNESCO list of the Dominican Republic and the corresponding map.

Description
- The Colonial City of Santo Domingo is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the capital city of the Dominican Republic. The site includes the historic center of Santo Domingo, the first permanent European settlement in the Americas and served as the capital of the Spanish Empire in the New World. The city’s historic buildings and monuments reflect a unique blend of European, African, and indigenous cultures that have shaped the region over the centuries, including the Alcazar de Colón, the Cathedral of Santa Maria la Menor, and the Ozama Fortress. Today, the Colonial City is a popular tourist destination and a well-preserved example of colonial-era urban planning and architecture in the Caribbean.
