Jamaica UNESCO has registered 1 site on the World Heritage list and 2 on the tentative list.

Some places are so interesting that it’s relevant to keep them for future generations. This is why UNESCO has built a list of crucial classified properties in which superb places stand out for their aesthetic, natural, artistic, or cultural significance.

More than a thousand places are registered as Unesco’s World Heritage worldwide. Due to my interest in visiting World Heritage sites, I compiled the UNESCO list in Jamaica and the corresponding map.

Description

  1. The Blue and John Crow Mountains are a UNESCO World Heritage Site in eastern Jamaica. The site includes the Blue Mountains and the John Crow Mountains, which are two distinct mountain ranges that cover an area of over 300,000 acres. The site is home to diverse ecosystems, including tropical rainforests, montane forests, wetlands, and several endemic and endangered species. The Blue and John Crow Mountains are also significant cultural sites for the Maroon communities, who have inhabited the region for centuries and have developed a unique culture and traditions that reflect their African heritage and their struggle for freedom and autonomy. Today, the site is a popular destination for eco-tourism and a well-preserved example of the region’s natural and cultural heritage.

UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Jamaica have protected places for their cultural and natural importance.
