Fiji Islands are a remote destination and completely off the beaten path.

To visit Fiji it’s quite easy. I had the chance to visit this country in Oceania and loved it. Not only did I see spectacular landscapes that mix jungles with heavenly white sand beaches, but Fiji made me want to go back someday to explore the many other places I didn’t go to this time.

In this page, I’m listing some of the things you can do on a trip to Fiji Islands. They’re obviously based on my personal experience and the things I did, which means there are many other things to do and places to see. But these are the ones I’d like to share with you. I hope you enjoy it.

1. Pick and eat coconuts on the beach

2. Walk in the white sand beaches

Walk in the white sand beaches. Enjoying nature and the outdoors on these amazing islands is something you’ll remember forever.

Drink Fiji’s mineral water. I had drunk this water in other countries before, but this time I chose to spend a lot less money by buying it at supermarkets.

4. Buy Fijian pineapples at the market

Eat fresh Fijian pineapples that you bought at the market.

5. Visit the Arts Village

Visit Arts Village at Pacific Harbour. This is a place with several art galleries that support different cultural projects. It’s also the place where you can attend the famous Fire Walk show, where people walk on fire.

6. Take a boat trip to Leleuvia

Arriving in Leleuvia Island by boat. This trip from Levuka is out of this world. You’ll depart from Ovalau Island and travel on crystal-clear waters among thick jungles.

7. Eat Scotch Finger Biscuits

Try Scotch Finger biscuits, definitely my favorite. These are the complimentary biscuits on Fiji Airways’ flights. I love them!

8. Hitchhike

Hitchhiking on a pick-up truck. I traveled on a pick-up truck after hitchhiking. In the end, I gave the driver a tip of 1 Fijian Dollar.

9. Buy pastries in the streets

Eat the different homemade pastries that people sell in the Suva and Nadi streets. There are always ladies in the streets selling homemade pastries baked by them. It’s worth eating a piece.

10. Visit the Suva city center

Visit the Suva city center, the capital of Fiji. The city has some monuments and points of interest to visit.

11. Attend the Fire Walk

Attend a ceremony of walking of fire – fire walk in Pacific Harbour. Although it’s a show put up for tourists, it’s still a great way to get to know the ritual and this part of the Fijian people’s culture.

12. Make barbecue under the ground

Learn how to make a barbecue under the ground. First, you dig a hole on the ground, then you burn wood until it turns to cinders, and you cover it with taro leaves. On top of that, you lay the meat, fish, or vegetables you want to cook, and cover it with more taro leaves, hot coals, and dirt. The whole thing cooks for several hours and has a smoky after taste.

13. Buy handicrafts

Buy a piece of traditional Fiji handicrafts at one of the local shops.

14. Traditional Fijian women dance

Attend a performance of Fijian women dance. It’s a very interesting show.

15. Relax at the beach and do nothing

Rest and relax on a hammock at a heavenly beach.
