Some of the less obvious holiday destinations for travelers – Algeria – is the second largest country in Africa (after Sudan). Almost 85% of the territory is covered by the Sahara desert where only 10% of the population live there.
The vast majority of the population are classified as Arab or Berber – and are Sunni Muslims. However, there are significant Christian and Roman Catholic communities.

Capital of Algeria – Algiers
The capital of Algeria was built on a hill, the Kasbah of Algiers is the UNESCO site since 1992. Within its maze of narrow streets there are Ottoman palaces, remains of an ancient citadel and several ancient mosques, including the Djemaa el-Kebir (the Great Mosque), dating from the XI century, and the impressive XVII century Ketchaoua Mosque.
